CREATE A SURVEY
The application WSS allows you to create surveys. You can create surveys to collect the opinions of your students. Students can create surveys as well. However, it is important to note that this tool is not adapted to create graded quizzes and to give feedback to repondents. Also, it is not possible to specify a correct answer.

To create s urvye, click on ''Site Actions'' on the right of the home page and from the drop-down menu select ''Create''.

Click on ''Survey'' under the heading ''Tracking''.

In this interface, you are asked to define the characteristics of the survey (title, description, navigation, anonymity of respondents, etc. ). We recommend that you display the survey on the Quick Launch  to give it increased visibility. Once you have made your choices, click on the button "Next" to continue.

On this page, you see the type of questions that you can create. You type the question in the box "Type your question here..." and you select the type of answer that you would like for the question (e.g. single line of text). The optional settings for your question vary slightly in function of the type of question.

This tutorial provides an example of a survey which contains a  multiple choice question, a rating scale question and a
short answer question, the most commonly used types of questions in WSS. We encourage you to explore the other types of questions.

CREATION OF A MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION
Type your question in the box and select "Choice" as the type of answer.

You can now determine if the respondents have to answer this question before going on to the next.
Type in your choices of answers in the box (you can enter more than three options).
As for the display choices, only the "checkboxes" allow users to choose several answers.
''Fill-in'' choices  refer  to respondents typing in an answer that was not part of the choices (equivalent to the option ''other''  in most  surveys). Once you have finished selecting the characteristics, click on the button "Next Question" or "Finish".

CREATION OF A RATING SCALE QUESTION
Type your question in the box on top of the page and select "Rating Scale".

You have the option to require respondents to answer this question before going on to the next one. Then, enter the choices that respondents will evaluate.
Number Range: Select the length of your scale depending on the precision that you wish to give to the scale.
Range Text:  The texts in this example are the default values. However, you can change them.
Show N/A option (not available): This option allows respondents not to answer if they feel that they are not able to evaluate the element.

Click on "Next Question" if you would like to add another question or on  "Finish" if you have finished the survey.

CREATION OF A SHORT ANSWER QUESTION
This type of question requires respondents to write a short answer to your question. Type your question in the box on top of the page. Select the option "Single line of text".

You have the option to demand that respondents answer this question before going on to the next one.
You can also determine the maximum number of characters that their answer can contain.

Click on the button "Next Question" if you would like to add another question or on "Finish" if you would like to end your survey.
