FAQ - RESOLUTION OF TECHNICAL PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED ON WSS SITES

Table of contents

I cannot get beyond the authentication page.
  • First, if you have not done so yet, you have to get your password synchronized. To do so, please go to the following address : http://web.hec.ca/password.html. You can keep your old password as long as it respects the new requirements. You have to click 'Change' to validate your changes. (By 'Your previous password', we are referring to the password that you are currently using for HEC en ligne and your email).

Copie d'écran de l'interface de changement de mot de passe

  • Then, make sure to type in '@hec.ca' after your student or employee number. Do not check the case 'Remember this password' in order to avoid connection problems to other WSS sites in the future.

Copie d'écran de la page d'authentification

Upon entering the site, the authentication page does not appear, and instead I immediately get the message "You are not authorized to view this page".

You see the following page when connecting to WSS :
Copie d'écran du message d'erreur "You are not authorized to view this page"

You may have checked the case 'Remember this password' upon your last authentication to another WSS site and/or your security configuration in Internet Explorer may not be appropriate.

  • Open Internet Explorer. On the menu at the top of the page, click on 'Tools' and then select 'Internet Options…'.
    Copie d'écran du menu outils

  • Click on the tab ‘Content’ and then on the button 'AutoComplete...'.
Copie d'écran de la fenêtre Options Internet

  • Click on the button ‘Clear passwords’.
Copie d'écran de la fenêtre de paramètres de la saisie automatique

  • Click 'OK'.
  • Select the tab ‘Security’ and click on ‘Custom level... ’.
Copie d'écran de la fenêtre Option Internet et de l'onglet Sécurité

  • Select the button radio on the line 'Prompt for user name and password'.
Copie d'écran des paramètres de sécurité

  • Click 'OK' in both windows and try connecting again to your WSS site.

When typing the address of my WSS site, I am asked to provide a domain name.

If you are asked to provide a domain name, then you most likely have Windows 2000 as your operating system. In this case, your username is only your student or employee number and the domain name is 'HEC'.

  • Username: 11010101
  • Password: *******
  • Domain name: HEC

I am not able to download a document to the site.

You are probably on a network that has a firewall that is blocking the downloading of documents. Try again on the school network.

I do not know the addresses of the sites that I am subscribed to.

In order to get the adresses of all the WSS sites that you are subscribed to for your classes, please go to the following site : http://technopedagogie.hec.ca/wss

I followed all the guidelines provided on the FAQ site and I am still not able to get connected to the WSS site.

It could be that you are not subscribed to the class site. You can check this by going to the following site : http://technopedagogie.hec.ca/wss. If the class site is not there and you are enrolled in the class, please contact the site administrators at the following address : gti.techno.wss@hec.ca.

It is possible that you are using a network that has a firewall that blocks access to WSS sites. Try again by getting connected through the network of the university.

It could be that  there is a problem with the configuration of your computer. Try to access the WSS site via another computer to check whether the problem comes from your computer or it is an issue with your username and/or password.
