One of the main worries
associated with the integration of spiritual values into an organization is the fear of"abusive sects". A sect deemed "abusive" is a group which offers a vision of the world, which is often idealistic and which leads to the belief in a seductive (or conversely, an overly gloomy, hopeless vision) future, which may ultimately lead to the alienation of critical thinking, to denial of human dignity, to financial swindling, to collective dementia or to criminal acts. Despite the fact that media often cover this phenomenon as though it were omnipresent, studies indicate that abusive sects only make up about 3 or 4 % of all people seriously engaged in spiritual or religious or non-religious movements. However, it is obvious that the massacres by the Order of the Solar Temple in Switzerland and in Canada, the terrorist attack in the Tokyo subway by the Aoum group, or the mass suicides of the Heaven's gate cult in the U.S., are not to be taken lightly. Indeed, some studies have suggested that there is an increasing presence of these sects in organizations. Below, we include some useful links to different organizations.
