Face à la mondialisation de plus en plus poussée de nombreux secteurs économiques, l'internationalisation des entreprises est de plus en plus nécessaire, entraînant chez celles-ci non seulement un niveau croissant de complexité, mais aussi un éventail élargi de solutions stratégiques et structurelles. Ce séminaire repose sur deux prémices : un, la complexité augmente suite à la dispersion géographique de ses opérations et de la plus grande variété de couples produits-marchés, animés par des logiques industrielles différentes, qui en découle ; deux, elle est aussi largement affectée du fait de devoir transiger avec plusieurs États-nations poursuivant chacun leur propre logique politique. Cette évolution affecte bien entendu de nombreuses firmes multinationales, les FMNs, mais aussi les plus petites entreprises à qui la mondialisation pose des défis d'accélération de leur croissance.
Si les recherches sont avares de solutions pour aider les entreprises
de toutes tailles à relever les nombreux défis que pose la
gestion dans ce nouvel environnement mondialement concurrentiel, elles
nous permettent néanmoins de constater que les problèmes
de gestion internationale peuvent être extrêmement difficiles
à comprendre. En effet, les entreprises sont aujourd'hui obligées
de faire face à des concurrents dont elles ont du mal à comprendre
les logiques et dont les avantages compétitifs sont non seulement
peu transpa-rents mais changent parfois d'un pays à l'autre compte
tenu de l'évolution de l'industrie ou de la conjoncture sociale,
politique et économi-que et internatio-nale. D’une part chaque pays
agit sur le monde des affaires de manière différente alors
que d’autre part les logiques stratégiques varient considéra-blement
d'une industrie à l'autre. Dans un contexte où les règles
de fonctionnement ne sont jamais tout à fait claires et précises,
chaque pays et chaque entreprise agissent donc constam-ment pour essayer
de les modifier en leur faveur et pour s'ajuster aux décisions de
l'autre partie. Au niveau de l’entreprise, les logiques qui animent chacune
des fonctions de gestion posent donc dans ce contexte des problèmes
d'une très grande complexité généralement difficiles
à structurer, parfois difficiles à identifier, et aussi très
difficiles à solutionner.
Ce séminaire de maîtrise et de doctorat a pour principal objectif de développer une vision globale et une grille de diagnostic des problèmes et solutions de gestion des firmes qui, en s'internationalisant, sont confrontées à une multitude d'options allant des stratégies de sensibilité nationale à celle d'intégration mondiale. De façon plus précise, les objectifs qui suivent baliseront nos débats :
2. Maîtriser, c'est-à-dire pouvoir nuancer, les principaux modèles et concepts contemporains de gestion internationale des entreprises.
3. Rechercher, présenter et discuter des contributions et limites des réflexions les plus récentes au sujet de la gestion stratégique des entreprises qui doivent faire face à l'internationalisation de leurs activités.
4. Mieux anticiper, et surtout pouvoir argumenter, les grands changements qui marqueront l'évolution de l'environnement international d'affaires au tournant du millénaire.
5. Développer une grille d’évaluation des paramètres d’intégration mondiale et de sensibilité nationale (grille IS) des entreprises.
1. Dossier d'animation
Les étudiants de maîtrise auront pour mandat principal, sous la supervision d’un doctorant, de présenter les textes complémentaires déjà identifiés au plan de cours. Les étudiants de doctorat devront pour leur part encadrer leurs collègues de maîtrise, assurer une mise à jour de nos connaissances sur le thème de la session en présentant une bibliographie complémentaire, et proposer de concert avec leur éventuel équipier, des mesures concrètes permettant l’élaboration d’une grille IS (ce concept sera présenté lors des premières sessions du séminaire).
Un dossier individuel d'animation devra être remis sous forme d'une synthèse de 10 pages (plus annexes et tableaux) avant 18h00 le lundi précédant le cours. Ce dossier devra préférablement être acheminé par courrier électronique à Alain.Noël@HEC.CA, par procédure de fichier attaché, préférablement en format Microsoft Word. Veuillez s’il-vous-plaît préciser, dans votre courrier, le traitement de texte et la version utilisée. À défaut d’un courrier électronique, le travail devra être déposé pour la même heure soit à mon bureau ou à ma résidence, à la convenance des étudiants. Enfin, bien que l'animation des sessions devra être partagée, le travail sera évalué individuellement pour chaque participant : il faudra donc en tenir compte pour équilibrer vos temps de présentation.
Dans cette optique, tous les participants à ce séminaire devront remettre au professeur dix textes de réflexion portant sur les thèmes de chaque session, à l’exclusion des séances qu’ils animeront. Ces textes d’une longueur maximale de 3 pages de 8 1/2 x 11 pouces, marges d’un pouce, à interligne et demi et au format de caractère minimal de taille 10, devront aussi être soumis avant 18h00 le lundi précédant le cours, par courrier électronique à Alain.Noël@HEC.CA, par procédure de fichier attaché, préférablement sous Microsoft Word. Veuillez s’il-vous-plaît préciser, dans votre courrier, le traitement de texte et la version utilisée.
Les étudiants de maîtrise devront choisir un ou deux textes dans les références complémentaires, en fonction de leurs intérêts d’étude, et les inclure avec les textes obligatoires dans leur réflexion.
Les étudiants de doctorat devront choisir au minimum trois textes, soit dans les références complémentaires, soit dans une revue spécialisée, et les inclure avec les textes obligatoires dans leur réflexion.
Ces textes de réflexion devront identifier les textes retenus par les participants, dégager cinq contributions majeures des auteurs retenus, lier ces contributions entre elles et au séminaire et soulever trois questions à débattre dans le cadre de notre rencontre. La note sera attribuée à la fois pour la qualité du texte soumis et de la contribution au séminaire : ceci implique que les interventions constructives des participants seront notées positivement alors que l'absence de contribution aux discussions animées par les collègues diminuera la note des personnes inscrites à ce séminaire.
