Jacques Desrosiers received his Ph.D. degree in Mathematics at the University of Montréal in 1979. Since 1989 he is Full Professor in the Department of Decision Sciences at HEC Montréal. He is also a member of the GERAD Operations Research Center. His main research interests include large scale optimization for vehicle routing and crew scheduling in air, rail, and urban transportation. Finally, in 1993 he became partner in Ad Opt Technologies which commercializes the Altitude software system for the management of air transport operations.
Ad Opt was a publicly traded Canadian company, listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange until 2004 when acquired by Kronos. It still employs 150 people with more than 100 experts in scheduling, operations research and computer engineering, while maintaining strong ties with world-renowned university research centers dedicated to optimization research such as GERAD. The Altitude product line is powered by GENCOL, a state of the art column generation technology - the result of over 25 years of collaborative research among Montréal universities in the field of advanced mathematics and operations research. Thousands of crewmembers all over the world are scheduled with Altitude's software solutions. Customers include: Air Canada, Atlas Air, Air Transat, Cargolux, Delta Comair, FedEx, Bombardier FlexJet, Mesaba, United, UPS, Us Airways, South African, Quantas and WestJet.
