Information Technology Implementation and Management

Most contemporary organizations depend on the use of information technologies (IT) to increase their efficiency and effectiveness, and improve their performance in markets that are increasingly competitive and global. To do so, organizations develop, put into place, and use computer applications and business solutions; however, many of these projects frequently go over budget and are delayed considerably.  Some are even outright failures. Despite several decades of research, the design, development, and use of IT, i.e., “IT Implementation,” remain difficult and complex tasks with many potential pitfalls.

The Creation of the Chair

The Canada Research Chair in Information Technology Implementation and Management was created on June 1st, 2003, as part of the Canada Research Chairs Program.

Objectives

The Chair's main objective is to conduct research in IT implementation, to improve our understanding of this complex phenomenon. The Chair will work to facilitate the development of tools and knowledge that will help organizations to better manage their IT implementations. It will also support master's and doctoral students studying IT implementation. Moreover, the Chair will work to increase the visibility of HEC Montréal in the information systems field.
