RÉSUMÉ: This presentation is devoted to analytical approaches for the assessment of transport risk associated with dangerous goods shipments. The first part of the discussion will be focused on fundamental concepts associated with transport risk. Then, we will present an overview of alternative risk models and point out the implications of model choice. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) constitute an essential tool for large scale risk assessment. The use of GIS will be demonstrated via U.S. and Canadian data sets.
