Transportation security and productivity

Since 11 September 2001 when homeland security emerged as a compelling topic of interest in the U.S., much attention has been focused on the economic impact of security concerns and resulting regulatory initiatives on the users (e.g., supply chains) and providers (e.g., ports, trucking, shipping, and air cargo companies) of the freight transportation system. The intent of this tutorial is to address the modeling and analysis issues associated with the following questions:
What are the ways in which users and providers of freight transportation can best manage the possibility of security-related disruptions and security-related regulatory initiatives and what is the impact on productivity?
Does sophisticated security technology, such as active smart seals, provide opportunities for new or improved supply chain management and design practices?
