The Quebec government created in 1978, under the Quebec’s Automobile Insurance Act, the Société d’assurance automobile du Québec, a government corporation that handles injury compensation arising from car accidents, but also created the Groupement des assureurs automobiles (GAA) entrusting it with specific responsabilities related to property damage compensation. All automobile insurance companies that operate in Quebec must belong to the GAA.

The GAA's mission is to serve the needs of policyholders while working to keep down the cost of claims so that Quebec drivers can continue to pay reasonable insurance premiums. To this end, the GAA offers advice on safety and prevention to those who use the roads.

The website describes first the GAA under its mandate, what it does and its partners.

About its mandate, the law entrusts the GAA with specific powers in three vital areas of automobile insurance: guaranteeing access to insurance, simplifying the claims process and regulating the professional appraisal of collision repairs.

In its activities’ area, the GAA performs a wide range of essential tasks. These include: managing the Automobile Statistical Plan (various types of automobile insurance data); managing the Automobile Claims Database; managing the Insurance Information Centre; drafting of standard automobile insurance policies; distributing the Joint Report; and running information campaigns.

There is also a complete list of numerous GAA’s partners: the Property Insurance Industry Partners, the Government Partners, the Partners in Prevention, and the Consumer Organizations.

The website is divided in five main sections:
